Love Joi
Joi “LoveJoi” Bowles, the Petersburg Va. native began her singing career at a very young age in church and at home. Over the years she has advanced as a powerhouse vocal performer and an exceptional song writer. LoveJoi has traveled nationally and internationally and worked with acts such as Chrisette Michelle (singing background), Bazaar Royal (Def Jam Records), and Trey Songz in his early career, and has graced the stage with artists such as The O Jays, Music Soulchild, and Charlie Wilson just to name a few. Her soulful and dynamic voice is one that not only touches each listener but also takes the audience on a musical journey with each song performed. Over the years LoveJoi has also performed as lead singer on the Richmond Jazz Festival stages, and the 2 Street Festival stages as well as other public and private venues and events, with the local bands “Chkn Grese” and The Tunji Band. Last year LoveJoi had the opportunity to dance on stage and perform an amazing breath taking vocal performance with The Isley Brothers at the Richmond Jazz Festival. She is now making major raves throughout the Richmond Metro area with her own band of talented noted musicians at multiple local venues such as GoodTymesRVA. She just released her first single “Your Comfort” on her upcoming debut self titled album, “LoveJoi”, which is available on iTunes. Her talent, drive, and love for the stage is definitely something to talk about and witness first hand at this year’s edition of the “Brooklyn Bazaar”.
Bazaar Royale
Bazaar Royale is a rock star and the creator of the “Ghetto Metal” movement, Royale has built a new sound that is full of rock optimism, spiked with a gritty dose of reality—the hard times millions of people are going through around the world. On his most recent CD, “The Ride” Royale takes us on a journey of self-discovery; Who am I as an individual and What role do I play in society?Bazaar works with some top-notched musicians to create a multi-layered Hip Hop, Soul/Funk in your face Rock sound. He has performed with artists such as, DMX, and Autoslave. His Ghetto Metal movement has already got some world class fans spreading the word. George Clinton, the innovative, poetic leader of Parliament Funkadelic explains it like this: “Ghetto Metal is aggression rock & roll that repossessed its own soul.” Mark Ronson, the legendary music producer who has worked with; Amy Winehouse, Christina Aguilera and Macy Grey says, “Ghetto Metal. The term sounds amazing because it just rings. It’s hip hop and rock. And not just any kind of Rock, it’s HARD Guitar Rock. There’s a raw energy that comes from Bazaar.”
Beverly Bond
Beverly Bond first came to New York when she was 17 years old to pursue a modeling career, eventually landing at Wilhelmina Models, where she was booked by such clients as Diesel Jeans, Guess, Nike and Nordstroms. An avid record collector, Beverly turned her passion for the turntables into a new career move. She started out spinning at local clubs just for fun, and within a year’s time Beverly turned into one of New York’s top DJs. In 2006, Bond founded BLACK GIRLS ROCK!, which debuted its signature event on BET in 2010. Beverly Bond’s work as a community leader has earned her a number of prestigious recognitions. Most recently Bond was recognized as one of Essence magazine’s 40 Fierce and Fabulous Women Who Are Changing the World, placing her in the company of such notables as First Lady Michelle Obama. Bond was also recently named as one of Ebony’sMost Influential Blacks in America.
Black Girls Rock! is an annual award show, founded by former DJ and model Beverly Bond, that honors and promotes Black women in different fields involving music, entertainment, medicine, entreprenuership, and visionary aspects; the categorized awards include “The ‘Rock Star’ Award,” “Social Humanitarian,” “Who Got Next?,” “Living Legend,” “Shot Caller,” “Trailblazer,” “Motivator,” “Young, Gifted & Black,” “Star Power,” and “Visionary.” The program also features musical performances by female recording artists in the R&B and Soul music genres.
The show’s ceremony made its official debut on the television screen in November 7, 2010 on BET, where it was hosted by actress Nia Long and featured acknowledgements and musical performances by performers such as SWV, Coko, Ruby Dee, Teresa Clark, Iyanla Vanzant, Kelly Price, Keyshia Cole, Marsha Ambrosius, Jill Scott, Ledisi, Keri Hilson, Ciara and Missy Elliot, who was previously honored with the “Creative Visionary” award in 2007.
In 2013 the show was shown on BET.
The 2015 event took place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark N.J.
At the 2016 awards show Hillary Clinton attended and introduced Bond.

After debuting our “caramelized” David Bowie songbook in 2011 at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium in Manhattan N.Y., seven years later BSAC is “doubling down” at The Brooklyn Museum, in, yes, you guessed correctly … Brooklyn N.Y.! Timing being paramount … a well received and attended BSA Sun Ra tribute at this past January at BKM’s “Target First Saturdays” event, along with “proper” BSA’s Bowie video documentation* doubly impressed Lauren Zelaya, BKM’s Assistant Curator of Public Events and “viola” the deal was done.

The Brooklyn Museum’s March 2 through July 15 presentation of the critically-acclaimed exhibition David Bowie is marks the final venue of the exhibition’s global, five-year tour, providing one last opportunity to view one-of-a-kind material from Bowie’s personal archive. David Bowie is presents approximately 400 objects— including original stage costumes, handwritten lyric sheets, album art, photographs, and videos— within an immersive, multimedia installation of continuous audio and projected animation and video. David Bowie is a timed ticketed exhibition.
The exhibition explores the broad range of Bowie’s collaborations with artists and designers in the fields of fashion, sound, graphics, theater, art, and film. Several immersive audio-visual spaces present dramatic projections of some of Bowie’s most ambitious music videos including DJ (1979) and The Hearts Filthy Lesson (1995), as well as recently uncovered footage of Bowie performing Jean Genie on Top of the Pops in 1973 and D.A. Pennebaker’s film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture (1973). A separate screening room shows excerptsand props from Bowie’s feature films such as The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Labyrinth (1986) and Basquiat (1996).
The Brooklyn Museum in addition to the exhibit has curated an amazing selection of public programs to celebrate the late artist’s creative process and cultural impact.

Los Angeles media company Mass Appeal returns to the Brooklyn Museum to present an evening of classic Davie Bowie music videos. The evening closes with a conversation by legendary “Life of Mars” director Mick Rock.

We’ll be “caramelizing” the Ohio Players, Zapp, Lakeside, Junie Morrison, Heatwave, Slave and Aurra, while also bringing back the old school “slow drag” where you’d least suspect it.
